Travel Nevada reaches 10,000 Instagram followers, announces channel takeovers

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Travel Nevada announced today that in celebration of reaching 10,000 followers, 10 different Nevada adventurers will take the reins of @TravelNevada on Instagram in a series of takeovers.

Ten thousand is roughly the number of steps accumulated in a very active day, so there’s a logical tie with these one-day takeovers in which guest Instagrammers are asked to showcase their on-foot adventures exploring the state.

“For Travel Nevada, this milestone is not only significant because of the quantity, but also because of Instagram’s relevance to the core millennial audience we’re trying to engage with our integrated marketing campaign,” Bethany Drysdale, Travel Nevada public relations director, said. “There are more than 400 million active users of Instagram today, and the channel is important in the travel marketing mix, as content is visually inspiring and motivating.”

The adventurers selected to participate in the Travel Nevada takeovers each manage popular Instagram accounts, and many are members of Instagram photographer communities such as the Reno Instagrammys. Each will have ownership of the @TravelNevada account for 24 hours as they take followers on 10,000-step tours of their favorite Nevada stomping grounds.

A few of the selected Instagram adventurers include:

  • Jimi Damone (@jimibobi_d) — Jimi, an avid mountain climber and photographer, will take over the @TravelNevada account on November 20 and hike into the Snowstorm Mountain Range.
  • Natalie Handler (@natty9toes) — Natalie is the co-founder of the Reno Instagrammys and in known for her ability to capture the quirks of Nevada through pictures. She will take @TravelNevada followers through Belmont Ghost Town and the Great Smoky Valley on November 23.
  • Chelsie Rose (@thenevadan) — Chelsie is a proud Nevadan, as evidence by her Instagram handle, and co-founder of the Reno Instagrammys. She will take over the @TravelNevada account on November 29 and take followers through White Pine County.
