New partnership between the Travel Foundation and Travel Nevada aims to ensure more communities can benefit from tourism.
International non-profit, the Travel Foundation is proud to announce a new partnership with Travel Nevada, aimed at maximizing the benefits of tourism for communities across the state. Through this collaboration, the Travel Foundation and Travel Nevada seek to ensure tourism plays a key role in strengthening local rural economies, while promoting environmental stewardship and enhancing quality of life for all Nevadans.
The two organizations will work with tourism stakeholders across Nevada to shape Nevada’s first state-level destination stewardship plan, setting ambitious goals for economic growth, community resilience, and environmental protection and establishing indicators to track progress against these.
The plan will, in turn, support the integration of destination stewardship into Travel Nevada’s Destination Development program, a tourism-based community planning program which enables Nevada’s rural communities to be more intentional about growing their visitor economies. A strong focus will be placed on ways to distribute tourism’s economic benefits to rural communities while safeguarding residents’ quality of life and protecting the local environment.
The initiative will also provide messaging for stakeholders and visitors, as well as examining ways to positively influence visitor behavior, including working with the nonprofit Leave No Trace.
Nicole Orsua, Chief Industry Development Officer for Travel Nevada said: “We are thrilled to partner with the Travel Foundation. Our aim is to enable communities across the state to gain greater social, environmental, cultural, and economic benefits from tourism. While destination stewardship is already integrated into Travel Nevada’s Industry Development Goals, this initiative will provide our first overarching strategy and plan of this type to align statewide and regional goals, as well as ensuring stewardship is fully integrated – not separate – from broader marketing and development strategies. A key part of this process will be identifying priority investments on the ground in communities to ensure long-term success. Beyond Nevada, working with the Travel Foundation enables us to create what we hope will be a compelling example so we can showcase our efforts on a global stage, inspiring other destinations around the world.”
