Nevada’s Tourism Day to Spotlight the State’s Travel and Tourism Industry
Carson City, NV – As Nevada’s policymakers convene for the 83rd Legislative Session, the legislative body also takes the opportunity to learn more about the industries and agencies that drive and support the economic engine of the state. On April 1, the Nevada Division of Tourism (Travel Nevada), part of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (DTCA), aims to boost awareness about travel and tourism through Tourism Day at the Nevada Legislature. Industry and agency partners will gather to educate, showcase, and celebrate the industry to demonstrate how Tourism Means More in Nevada.
“Nevada’s tourism industry is a cornerstone of our economy, driving growth and supporting communities across the state,” said Rafael Villanueva, CEO of Travel Nevada. “In 2024, the Silver State welcomed millions of visitors, whose spending left a significant impact on local economies and households throughout Nevada. Tourism Day is an opportunity to highlight the immense value of this dynamic industry, celebrate its contributions to both urban and rural destinations, and demonstrate the ongoing importance of tourism in shaping the future of Nevada’s communities.”
Preliminary estimates for 2024 indicate that more than 52 million visitors traveled to the Silver State in 2024, generating $56.8 billion in direct spending, an increase of nearly 3% from the prior year. This supported over 300,000 jobs that were directly impacted by visitor spending, encompassing key industries that depend on visitors.
As the chief marketing entity of the state, Travel Nevada is one of the only state agencies to generate money for the General Fund each year without drawing any money from it. The Nevada Division of Tourism is funded by 3/8 of one percent of state lodging tax. The remaining amount of the state tax is retained by the local community in which it’s collected, boosting the local economy.
Travel Nevada continues to promote scenic road trips, cultural events, and developing destinations to provide quality of life to all Nevadans. #TourismMeansMore
