Nevada Magazine receives top awards from the Nevada Press Association
Carson City, Nev. (October 8, 2015) – Carrying on its trailblazing tradition, Nevada Magazine could not be fenced in last Friday at the Nevada Press Association awards banquet as it claimed five first-place awards including the coveted General Excellence award, the top prize in the magazine category.
“Nevada Magazine shows a proven commitment to excellence in journalism and we are honored to work with every person on its staff,” said Director at Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Claudia Vecchio. “The award sweep is a huge honor, however it doesn’t surprise me. Megg Mueller and Eric Cachinero constantly impress with their ability to find the untold tales from within our state, and drive curiosity in a way only well-told stories can.”
Nevada Magazine is primarily self-funded and published in association with the Nevada Division on Tourism. The bi-monthly magazine is the official tourism publication for the state with much of its content and special features available online at NevadaMagazine.com.
The favorite Silver State publication also landed four second-place awards and a third-place award. Staff of Nevada Magazine includes: Publisher Janet Geary, Managing Editor Megg Mueller, Associate Editor Eric Cachinero, Marketing Manager Adele Hoppe, Circulation Manager Carrie Roussel, Business Manager Janet Kinney, Art Director Sean Nebeker, and Senior Graphic Designer Danny Miller.
Miller took home two additional awards including the Silver Star award, which recognizes the integral people behind the scenes. As production manager for the magazine, Miller’s noted commitment to the success of the publication and its website was praised.
“Danny is a major component of our success. His creativity and energy constantly push us to be better and to create better products,” said Publisher Janet Geary. “We are lucky to have him on our team.”
Managing Editor Megg Mueller was honored with a first place prize as well, winning Best Entertainment Writing for her “Cravings” column, which highlights restaurants and food and drink stories throughout the state.
“I love sharing all the incredible dining and food news happening in Nevada. Writing these stories is always fun for me, and it’s great to know people are enjoying them,” said Mueller.
Other first-place awards presented to Nevada Magazine and it’s staff include Best Special Project for Miller and Marketing Manager Adele Hoppe’s collaborative efforts on “Nevada’s Official Travel & Leisure Guide” and Best Advertising Innovation for Art Director Sean Nebeker’s work on the bind-in card for the guide.
Nevada Magazine took four second-place awards including Best Explanatory Journalism for “National Cowboy Poetry Gathering: First-Timer’s Guide,” Best Non-Staff Story for “Experience ‘The 36th Star’,” Best In-House Promotion for “Unique Nevada Gift Ideas,” and Best Large-Space Ad for “Let Nevada Magazine handle your holiday shopping.” The publication also rendered one third-place award for “Advertising General Excellence.”
