A Note from the Director – July 2017
Hello, fellow Nevadans! I am pleased to announce our redesigned website, TravelNevada.biz, and complementing newsletter – each designed just for you. We’ve created this newsletter to serve as your resource for quick information on programs, campaigns, and industry news. It also will provide specific links to TravelNevada.biz where you will find more information about each of the articles, as well as continuously updated insights and tools. Please take note of the Partner Portal, where you can update your own business or destination listing. The Nevada State Legislature concluded June 6, and we thank all legislators for recognizing the importance of Nevada’s tourism marketing efforts by allowing the budget to remain stable. During this session we introduced the Tourism Means More campaign. This campaign was designed to highlight the value of state’s leading economic engine – the tourism industry. Great thanks to everyone who participated in the Tourism Day at the legislature and for help with communicating the value of tourism through key messages to legislators. I hope you’ve had a chance to view the program’s video featuring extraordinary Nevadans talking about the importance of tourism to the state. If you haven’t please take a moment to watch the video on the Tourism Means More webpage (TourismMeansMore.com). The industry is working hard and it’s paying off. Room tax revenues, sales taxes associated with traveler spending, meeting and convention bookings and overall domestic and international visitation continue to rise. The statistics around these increases is always available at TravelNevada.biz at the Research/Strategy tab. These are important messages for the entire industry to have at its fingertips and we appreciate your conveying these numbers when asked about tourism in the state. The Travel Nevada team also is working to develop programs and campaigns that create a compelling purchase decision for potential travelers. We’re very excited about a new project that will be unveiled in the fall that we hope will generate significant buzz in and drive business from our key markets. Look for more information coming very soon. As always, Travel Nevada is here to be a resource for you with information about the tourism industry and how we work to compel visitation to Nevada through our global sales and marketing programs. We welcome your feedback and hope to continue to see many of you at territory meetings, Rural Roundup, and the Governor’s Global Tourism Summit. Mark your calendars for this year’s Summit, December 4 – 5, 2017. Thank you for all you do to promote Nevada tourism! Sincerely, Claudia Vecchio Director, Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs
