Welcome to the 83rd session of the Nevada Legislature!

We are the Division of Tourism (Travel Nevada), and we operate within the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs to help achieve the priority of a vibrant and sustainable economy. In addition to managing the state’s tourism efforts, Travel Nevada provides communities and businesses with development resources, training, and grant assistance that help bolster local economic bases and diversify regional economies. We also produce Nevada Magazine & Visitor Guide, a publication that provides travel inspiration through its articles and photography.

With a presence statewide, Travel Nevada is focused on creating a fulfilling quality of life for all Nevadans. As our research shows, travelers who visit Nevada leave with a deeper understanding of our western heritage, knowledge of the state’s abundant outdoor recreation opportunities, and a renewed appreciation for wide open landscapes. And while those travelers leave with a promise to return, the state benefits with increased tax generation, job creation and retention, infrastructure investment, and more opportunity for residents.

"The last few years have shown concretely just how important tourism is not only to the economic vitality of Las Vegas, but to its overall spirit and personality. Like so many communities around the country during that time, Vegas was tested by enormous challenges outside its control. But it came through it with renewed vigor. Since establishing my Lip Smacking Foodie Tours in 2014 (and subsequent sister company Finger Licking Foodie Tours), I have been proud -- and even more so now -- to introduce visitors to the breadth and depth of our dining scene, from the family-owned gems to the celebrity chef-helmed landmarks. It’s enormously gratifying to see people again eating, talking, laughing, and enjoying themselves around a table on our culinary tours. Most of all, I’m thrilled to help foster a newfound appreciation for the superlative restaurants we are so fortunate to have here."

"Mesquite welcomes tens of thousands of visitors every year to our beautiful and safe city. Tourism is important to the Mesquite economy; however, it is also important to express why. Mesquite has a population of roughly 23,000 residents. Within this number, 25% of those residents work in the foodservice industry catering primarily to our tourists. This percentage does not include the residents working in gaming, entertainment, and outdoor recreation, all of which are growing industries within Mesquite. When considering our tourists, 85% have reported visiting Mesquite for gaming and golf while 50% expressed interest in visiting other cities in Nevada while in the area. Mesquite has become an increasingly popular tourist destination since the pandemic started and we expect to see that trend continue. We ask that our legislators please continue funding tourism as it is a key point to our city and state’s recovery for us to move forward. "

"As an established tourism professional in the great state of Nevada for nearly 30 years, I have developed and cherished many sincere values about our exciting industry. Nevada represents the epitome of excitement for our thousands of visitors whether it be in gaming, attractions, shows, or the many rewards of outdoor adventure. My heart embodies the invigorating spirit of tourism as it does for so many others. This spirit is about creating everlasting memories and we so much want to continue this quest in 2021 as domestic and international visitations continue an upward trend. In doing so, Nevada, whether it be in Las Vegas, Reno/Tahoe, Ely, Mesquite, or any other rural communities, we will once again become the industry of creativity, partnerships and proven return. There are so many challenges in front of us, but I am convinced that our passion, willingness to work hard and dedication to improved technologies will continue to move us forward in representing the world’s premier destination and its exciting rural communities within the state of Nevada."

"Nevada is rich with so many stories and beautiful locations to share with visitors from near and far. Tourism should help showcase a community or location. It should be a grassroots effort that starts within a community where the residents are proud of their cultures, history, beautiful locations, available activities, and events. Visitors are always seeking new and unique experiences. Working together the community can share their unique stories which in turn will help increase the appreciation and stewardship of the area. Enhancing tourism does need to be very thoughtfully planned to help conserve both the authenticity of the place and the natural environment and it is also a way to enhance the quality of life for residents while enhancing economic diversity."

"There are nine National Wildlife Refuges in Nevada that are managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in collaboration and coordination with numerous state and local partners: Sheldon, Anaho Island, Fallon, Stillwater, Ruby Lake, Ash Meadows, Desert, Moapa Valley, and Pahranagat. National Wildlife Refuge System lands and waters serve a purpose distinct from that of other U.S. public lands: Wildlife conservation drives everything on national wildlife refuges, from the purposes for which each refuge was established to the recreational activities offered, to the resource management tools used. The national wildlife refuges in Nevada are special places for wildlife and people. They provide important habitats for hundreds of plant and animal species, attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, and provide recreation opportunities that include hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, photography, and education, as well as associated activities such as hiking, backpacking, boating, and camping. All these recreational activities support the outdoor recreation-based tourism economy in Nevada, especially in the small rural communities near the refuges. In the fiscal year 2020, recreational spending by 61 million visitors to national wildlife refuges helped generate about $3 billion in economic activity and support 41,000 jobs."

"I have been in Las Vegas for 30 years now, in the tourism industry, specifically representing the wedding industry! We are the wedding capital and serve many wedding couples for weddings, renewals, commitment ceremonies and most recently exploding with proposals. We are a destination wedding location and romance travel has grown to offer so many other celebrations such as bachelorettes, bachelor parties, and even honeymoon celebrations! Many couples are enjoying our vast scenic wedding locations, such as Valley of Fire, Red Rock, Mt. Charleston, Boulder City, and El Dorado Canyon for their ceremonies to name a few! We have a vast amount of International clients coming to Las Vegas for their celebrations and often say this is a “dream” to come here for their celebrations. They love seeing the state parks, and driving throughout our great state to see all the wonders we have! The wedding industry impacts so many businesses from chapels, formal wear rentals, florists, transportation companies, restaurants, shows, etc. They all service the needs of the many couples. We hope to continue on the path of being the wedding capital, making lifelong memories from Nevada!"

Tourism Means More
Grant-funded Projects in Your District

Travel Nevada offers opportunities to communities to develop their tourism products via two grant programs.

  • The agency’s Rural Marketing Grants help communities market their destination to visitors to generate overnight stays. Travel Nevada awards $1.5 million per year to rural partners for a variety of marketing projects.
  • The 3D (Destination Development Design) Program is a long-range, tourism-based community planning program that enables Nevada’s rural communities to be intentional about growing their visitor economies. Now in its third round, each awarded destination project goes through a strategic planning process and will share $1 million to execute their plans at the completion of the process.

Your district lies in the Reno-Tahoe Territory. Below is a list of some of the projects that have been funded as part of the grant programs:
