This newsletter marks a year that the Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT) has been sending quarterly reports to its partners. The staff hopes you find these newsletters informative. For the third quarter (January - March 2010) of FY10, staff completed the FY10-11 strategic plan, finalized the spring/summer advertising campaign, produced the 20th annual Rural Roundup conference, hosted a familiarization trip for German travel writers and tour operators, and published two issues of Nevada Magazine. Marketing Department

As the winter advertising campaign came to a close, we developed the spring/summer advertising campaign. The primary objective of the campaign was to bring visitors to Nevada by showcasing the activities available in our great state. A media mix of print, broadcast, Internet and mobile was chosen to convey the “Capture Your Heart” concept that showed a colorful image of “Fly Geyser” framed by two hands forming a heart. Sales Department

The 20th annual Rural Roundup was held in Winnemucca March 24-26, 2010. More than 220 rural tourism partners attended the conference. The program included keynote speakers from Google and Destination Development and breakout sessions about enhanced social media skills, tour operator relationships and itinerary building techniques, to list a few of the topics covered. Media Relations Department

Much of the past quarter was spent organizing the ski familiarization trip to showcase Nevada’s skiing to nine German media and tour operators. The tour, March 17-24, 2010, included four days of skiing at Lake Tahoe, a snowmobile tour, an excursion to Virginia City and shopping and sightseeing in Reno. Read more.

Nevada Magazine

Two issues of the magazine were published this past quarter. The January/February 2010 issue featured the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympic Winter Games, and the March/April issue featured articles about the 75th anniversary of Nevada’s state-parks system and the Pony Express sesquicentennial. We are currently wrapping up production of the May/June issue, which will feature military operations in Nevada and wildflower viewing. Read more.
