Media Relations Department
Our department arranged two media tours in June, one for Canadian media and tour operators and one for domestic media. The Canadian tour included eight media representatives and tour operators and showcased eastern Nevada via Highway 93 from Las Vegas to Elko. The group had quite an experience in Elko where the Elko Motorcycle Jamboree was in full swing. They also got a taste of cowboy life before returning south to tour Eureka and stay in the new Cowboy’s Dream B&B in Alamo.
The domestic media familiarization tour included seven media representatives and also explored the eastern side of the state with a heavier emphasis on state parks. A representative from the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources accompanied the tour and lent valuable insight to the history, geology and recreation found in the state parks located along the route from Las Vegas to Ely. While in Ely, the group attended the inaugural Cave Lake Bathtub Races and got a taste of unique rural Nevada fun.
Both tours visited Great Basin National Park and the Lehman Caves. The tours were planned in coordination with the state’s tourism territories, visitor bureaus and hotel partners.
